A CHARITY carp match has raised £4,200 for cancer charities.

In its 7th year, the annual competition at Bishops Bowl has raised in excess of £30,000 in total.

Anglers came from across the country to support the event, which ended with an auction and raffle with prizes sending lucky bidders and winners for fishing holidays abroad.

Meanwhile the regular Thursday pensioners’ match produced excellent results, along with the usual friendly banter.

The match was won by angler Dave Walker with 43lb 6oz of bream, tench and carp, second was Howard West with 35lb, and third John King with 29lb 7oz.

Pensioners wishing to join the match will find a welcome with a free hot drink.

A lake record bream, at 11lb 6ox, was also netted from Greenhill Lake.
