BARBY have beaten Weekly and Warton in the National village knockout.

Barby batted first with two quick wickets and looked in trouble.

But skipper Tom Gleghorn (48) and Dave Watson (30) steadied the innings.

A late push by Joel Gleghorn (17) and William Sinclair (21 not out) saw Barby reach 165-seven. Cortese two-21 and Payne two-34 were the main wicket takers for Weekly and Warton.

In reply, Barby started strongly with early wickets for Bickram Singh three-21 and Dave Knightbridge.

The innings never really got going with wickets falling regularly. A superb run out by Lyndon Slassor along with Phil Beagley two-seven and Adam Shay two-16, rapped up the tail with Weekly and Warton all out for 103.

Barby progress to the final of the Northants section for the second year running. The final is played at Barby on Sunday at 1pm.

Barby entertained Pak Shaheen at the BCG on Saturday.

Barby won the toss and on a damp track decided to field first. Pak Shaheen started slowly and this was the way the innings continued.

Dave Knightbridge opened the bowling and bowled 15 overs straight through taking two-38. Only Paul Jacob showed any real resistance – he hit 43.

Barby continued to bowl tightly with wickets falling regularly. But a succession of dropped catches did not help the cause. Accurate bowling by Stev Stipanovic three-48 and Dave Watson four-31 kept the score to 133 all out off 44 overs.

In reply, Barby also started slowly with tight bowling which saw the home side struggle. Wickets fell at regular intervals. Faruq, Zaman and Raja all taking two wickets.

Barby never really looked like reaching the target and only Neil Chippington (31 not out) put up any resistance. Barby finished on 104-eight and the result saw Barby pick up eight points.

The seconds game at Sheldon Marlborough was off due waterlogged ground.
