Jim Mallinder says Luther Burrell is revelling in the battle to claim a central role for England this autumn.
And the Saints director of rugby is hoping his player gets a shot after helping to secure a 19-12 success at London Irish on Saturday.
Burrell used his raw power to push past Shane Geraghty and claim the only try of the game at the Madejski Stadium.
It underlined his international credentials and with the autumn internationals starting in November, the 26-year-old will look to continue catching the eye of the coaches.
“Centre is a competitive position and Luther enjoys that,” said Mallinder.
“Throughout his career he’s always been up against it.
“He’s not worried about the competition, instead he’s just concentrating on playing well for Saints.
“Hopefully (England boss) Stuart Lancaster will pick him.”
