Solihull are too strong

PROMOTION contenders Solihull IIIs proved too strong for Long Buckby IIs as they ran out 5-0 winners.

The game started well with Buckby defending strongly to keep Solihull at bay. However, Buckby failed to push forward as they have done in previous games in order to threaten the Solihull defence.

Solihull continually challenged the Buckby lines and were rewarded with a goal giving them a 1-0 lead at half-time.

Following the break Buckby fought hard but failed to concern the Solihull backs.

Solihull frequently pushed through to make holes in the Buckby defence and scored three goals in quick succession, much to Buckby’s frustration.

Solihull managed to slot home a fifth goal to seal the win.

Buckby’s player of the match was Mary Burton.

Saints’ tactics of having 11 players behind the ball made it difficult for Daventry ladies to recreate the free flowing hockey that was on display the previous week.

The first goal came 10 minutes in to the first half,
starting with a long pass from Mandy at the back, the ball then being passed to Roni for the first of her three goals.

Alex, Roni and Ang followed up with three more goals to make it 4-0 at half time.

The second half continued in the same manner as the first with Daventry continuing to push hard against the Saints defence.

Ang scored her second, a fierce shot from a short corner.

Jo went on to score her first of the season, Roni got her hat trick and Jo her second to take the final score to 9-0.
