LONG Buckby battled their way to a comfortable win on Saturday despite still reeling from injuries and players not available for selection which has dogged the start of their season.
From the kick off the Station Road outfit took the game to the opposition.
Playing against a much stronger Old Newtonians pack, the ball was moved at every opportunity which resulted in early tries for Craig Mason (2) and Tom Evans.
With good performances from Scott Bayes, Adam Foster and Mark Morris in the forwards providing more possession Buckby scored further tries by Jonny Palmer and Dough Burroughs.
With Palmer kicking four conversions they turned round 33 points to the good with a bonus point secured.
The second half started pretty much like the first with Buckby pressing on and forcing Old Newts into making mistakes.
This resulted in further tries for Will Darby, Sam Evans and Simon Oakey.
Palmer kicked three more conversions to seal a 54-0 win which should stand them in good stead when they visit rivals Daventry.
Long Buckby are still recruiting players of all age groups. All are welcome Tuesdays and Thursdays for seniors and colts, and Sundays for mini/juniors.
