YOUTH FOOTBALL: Davies doubles up and Weston impresses but Danes miss out

Daventry Danes Under-15s pushed one of the top teams in the John Henry B League all the way before losing 4-2.

An ever-improving Daventry side played well in windy conditions, and were unlucky to be 1-0 down at half time.

Daventry tried hard in the second half to get an equaliser, but two quick goals gave Eagles a 3-0 lead.

That was to prove too much for Daventry to claw back.

Team: Daniel Ramsden, Morgan Bradshaw, Corbin Mazzone, Jamie Ridley, Harvey Walker, Oliver Edginton, Ciaran Allibone, Adam Morby

Report: The Danes started attacking the Hackleton defence right from the whistle with Ollie opening the scoring after five minutes. With Hackleton under constant pressure from the Danes it didn’t take long for Ciaran to double the score with a nice piece of skill and cool finish. The Danes switched off briefly to allow Hackleton a soft goal. Now the Danes upped the tempo and with Ciaran’s barrage of corners giving the Hackleton goalie and defence no rest, Harvey (MOM) increased the lead with a header from another superb corner. Danes still surged forward and goals from Ollie and Ciaran made it 5-1 at half-time. The second half was more even with both teams playing excellent football, and it to stay goalless. A great game of football from both sides together with a superb referee who let the game flow.

Report: Saxons’ magnificent cup run is over despite pushing their unbeaten higher league opponents all the way. Battling Saxons were always in contention and made life very difficult for Bugbrooke, who ultimately punished Saxons for not taking their chances, and for not throwing caution to the wind earlier, in their search for glory. Saxons limited their opponents to only a few chances and played the offside trap well for most of the game, and going forward, always looked likely to score. Man-of-the-match Nayan Bryce was a real menace to Bugbrooke throughout, working tirelessly for the team.
Taylor Noel was a constant threat on the break. Josh Adams came close on a number of occasions, firing over from close range in each half and having a header go agonisingly wide. Attention now turns back to the league with Saxons in a real tussle for the title, and on this performance and on the back of their magnificent cup run, stand every chance of doing themselves justice.

Scorer: Christopher Gunter

Team: Ryan Adams, Thomas Kempster, Thomas Brentnall, Joseph Bannister, Christopher Gunter, Thomas Fisher, Oliver Starling, William Bellis, Lewis Allford, Alex Clift, Harry Maund, Riley Marklew

Report: The first match for Daventry in four weeks and they came out strong
against Thorplands. MOM Ryan Adams put in some good saves before Thorplands scored in the fifth minute. Daventry came back with an excellent goal from Chris Gunter, assisted by Oliver Starling. Both teams battled hard for the remainder of the first half before Thorplands slotted goal number two just before half time. Daventry kept their heads
up in the second half but sadly were denied another goal. Adams continued to
put in some excellent saves but Thorplands were too strong and slotted four more goals
