The former Reading man joined the club on the eve of the 2014/15 season on a short-term deal, which was extended to the summer of 2016 halfway through his first season.

D’Ath has continued to impress, and the 23-year-old has now committed his future to he Cobblers until the end of the 2017/18 season, which Wilder is very happy about.

“We are delighted to have agreed this new contract with Lawson,” said the Cobblers boss.

“He very much fits in with our style and how we want to continue to develop and progress.

“He is young, talented, skilful, mobile and has a fantastic attitude. He is a good age, he has developed and improved his game over the last 18 months and we are really pleased to have secured the future of a very talented player.”

D’Ath was signed after catching the eye as a trialist in a pre-season friendly at Eastleigh back in 2014, and he burst on to the first team scene a few weeks later with two goals in a Capital One Cup victory at Wolverhamptton Wanderers on his debut.

He has gone on to make 59 starts and 14 substitute appearances for the club, scoring 13 goals.

D’Ath has been a key player for the team, and Wilder believes there is a lot more to come from the Witney-born attacker.

“Lawson has enjoyed his football here and he is an important member of the squad who feels at home in our dressing room,” said the Town manager.

“He has made fantastic progress, but we feel there is still more to come from him, and we are looking forward to working with him to help continue his progression and development.

“It is a sign of our progress as a club that we are able to attract and retain young players like Lawson, and this is great news for Northampton Town.”
