After seeing his side sunk by substitute Stan Mugisha’s stoppage-time winner, Foster said: “It was an absolutely solid performance that deserved at least a point.

“Chasetown were very lively in the first half but we defended well and soaked up the majority of the pressure. The second half was a complete turnaround as we dominated long periods and stopped them playing.

“We were never going to get a better chance to win the game than when young Edilson [Panzo–Antonio] was gifted a chance with a late header on goal but unfortunately he got it all wrong.

“The killer blow came in the third minute of added-time and it can only be put down to tired legs as the 11 players available to me had run themselves into the ground. Neil Champelovier was playing his first full game for some years but it was never a problem because he never once looked out of place.”

Foster knows the transfer embargo must be sorted out quickly if Daventry are not to slip down the table and added: “I only hope it will be lifted shortly because this bunch of lads do not deserve to crumble and fall away into a relegation battle after such a promising start to the season. The bottom line is that we need to sign players as the squad at this level cannot be sustained.

“With Kieran Fitzgerald, Nabil Shariff, Jon Bukasa and Karabo Motshweni in South Africa I have ten squad players available plus Neil Champelovier. So I can only hope the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League will support us and allow us to sign a couple of players very soon but I honestly do not hold out too much hope.”
