Drayton Grange Vets secured a 4-1 win over Valley Vets in the Daventry and District Sunday Veterans League.
This was Grange’s first game for five weeks, but they were quickly back on song.
With Pete Aldridge between the sticks, Grange raced into a 2-0 half-time lead courtesy of two well worked goals scored by Paul Atkins and Andrzej Bajek.
Valley briefly threatened with a breakaway goal after Richard O’Malley was outpaced and outmuscled by the portly visiting centre forward.
However, any chance of a fightback was quickly subdued as further goals from Atkins and Mike Fielding were scored.
Other chances came and went, with Paul Atkins in particular spurning several chances to complete his hat-trick, leaving the final score of 4-1 to Grange.
Referee Adam O’Connor had a fine game in the middle.
There was a minute’s applause held before the game with Valley to mark the first anniversary of the tragic death of Mark Lawrence.
