Long Buckby endured a nightmare on Tuesday evening when they were hammered 8-1 at Thurnby Nirvana.

Thurnby climbed to fifth place in the Premier Division after overwhelming Dan Stewart’s rock-bottom.

Pearson Mwanyongo gave Nirvana the lead after 13 minutes, and Matt Melbourne added a second seven minutes later.

Ash Day added two rapid fire goals after 29 and 30 minutes, the second a penalty.

Reece Morris joined the scoring spree on 39 minutes with Liam Canavan next on the scoresheet three minutes later.

Canavan took his season’s goal tally to 19 three minutes before the hour mark.

Day completed his hat trick from the penalty spot after 71 minutes.

Muzi Nduna-Ndlovu scored an 89th minute Buckby consolation.

On Saturday, Buckby will be aiming to get back to winning ways when they entertain 13th-placed Boston Town.

WOODFORD United return to UCL Division One action on Saturday when they entertain Bourne at Byfield Road (ko 3pm).

The Reds’ match was postponed last weekend, and Adam Knight will be confident his side can see off a Bourne side two places below them in the table.
