Town in crisis as Foster walks away

Following Foster out of Communications Park are assistant manager Neil Champelovier and club secretary Nigel Foster.

The troubled club had to postpone Monday’s Evo-Stik Northern Premier League derby at Rugby Town due to a lack of players and there must be concerns the club will be in the same position for the next game.

That will be Saturday’s Division One South clash with Stocksbridge Steels at Communications Park. Three days later Daventry, who remain in 19th place following their 13th straight loss against Kidsgrove Athletic last weekend, have another rearranged home game against Belper Town.

Loyal supporters will want to know who will be in charge for that game and if the club will have enough players by then.

Foster said: “I should be feeling sorry but I don’t because of what Neil Champelovier and I have gone through in the last few months. We tried to resurrect Daventry Town after the difficulties they had last season but we didn’t get enough support from within the club.

“It became too difficult for my family in the end. We only took the job on because we love the football side of it but it became too much in the end.

“We tried everything we could to keep it going but in the end we were having nine players available on a Friday night and you can’t have that at this level.

“We spoke about the situation a few weeks ago but decided to try and work through it.

“I was promised that the transfer embargo would be lifted a few weeks ago. But in the end we were having to gamble on players we knew nothing about just to get a team out.

“We went from being around the play-offs to down in the relegation area in a matter of a few weeks. I don’t know what the future holds for the club.”
