WOODFORD United and Marlow were both without Central Division matches at the weekend.
The break came about because of Uxbridge and Chertsey Town’s continued participation in the FA Trophy competition.
Uxbridge will carry the flag forward into the next round after an excellent 2-1 win over Conference club Histon while Chertsey performed with credit despite losing 2-0 at Brackley.
Back in the Southern League, St Neots’ 1-0 defeat at bottom club Bedfont will send shock waves through step four football circles. The Saints are due to visit Daventry Town next Tuesday.
Matches at Hayes, Bedworth and Leighton Buzzard all ended in 1-1 draws. There were welcome home wins for both Barton Rovers and Fleet Town whose 3-1 defeat of Aylesbury included two early goals from James Taylor.
Bobby Dance’s first-half penalty gave Barton the points against Northwood while another spot-kick enabled Beaconsfield SYCOB to edge out Rugby Town at Butlin Road.
Slough Town regained top spot from Bedworth despite almost frittering away a 4-1 lead when beating Ashford Town by a 4-3 margin.
