Super-sub Mugisha pops up to sink Daventry with late winner

Daventry looked to have earned a point in the Division One South clash after Mitchell Piggon had produced a deserved equaliser in the 2-1 defeat.

Conditions at the Scholars ground were difficult after days of heavy rain and a deluge during the second half.

Volunteers worked on the pitch for several hours from early morning ensured the game took place but the surface was very bobbly, wet and muddy.

The Scholars had been on a good run of form, losing just one game in their last eight outings and that was away at runaway leaders Stafford Rangers by just 2-1.

Chasetown had taken 13 points from a possible 15 so Daventry needed to be at full strength for their visit to the West Midlands.

The Scholars created the first clear chance on goal when James Dance’s shot came back off the bottom of the posts.

But Chasetown took the lead in the 22nd minute, winger John Gould broke down the left to the bye-line before pulling the ball back for Nick Turton, making his first appearance of the season, to beat Ben Heath.

Midfielder Barry Deacon forced Chasetown keeper John Bateman into tipping his powerful shot over the bar before Ricky Hill’s header came back off the bar before being cleared to safety.

Daventry were rewarded for a much better second half performance when Piggon pounced on a pass back and slotted the ball home.

Daventry could have gone ahead but Edilson Panzo–Antonio somehow managed to put his header wide of the goal from just two yards out.

Mugisha was off target and then forced a fine save from Heath before scoring the winner in the third minute of stoppage-time.

Mugisha received the ball from the left and advanced quickly hitting a shot which bounced and skimmed across the wet surface into the bottom right hand corner of the net.
