SUNDAY FOOTBALL: Hyams hat-trick helps Casey’s to thumping victory

Casey’s were 8-1 Rugby & District Sunday League Division One winners over Woodlands Of Rugby, but the match was harder than the result suggests.

The first half ended 4-1 however without a superb save by Casey’s keeper Richard Mansell and two last ditch blocks by Casey’s Tom Consentino it could have been different.

The second half saw the job completed with one-way traffic with Casey’s taking advantage of the slope.

This gave the club the opportunity to introduce several youngsters such as Will Gilford who grabbed a superbly crafted goal,hard working midfielders Josh Hyams and new signings Dan Hutchinson and Karl Shingler.

Chris Trill could not match his previous game’s hat trick but still grabbed two, as did Stuart Clarke opening up his account for the season and Ben Hyams notched a well deserved hat-trick as well as Will Gilford’s single strike.

This Sunday Casey’s travel to table toppers Long Lawford.

In the Rugby & District Sunday League Division Two, AFC Casey’s were 3-0 winners over Red Lion Rugby.

New signing Arran Crampton gave Casey’s an early lead and burly midfielder Jed Brennan made it 2-0 just before the interval.

In the second half, Casey’s goalkeeper Jordan Shingler made several important saves.

Martin Russ was influential in Casey’s midfield as the Red Lion pushed for a score, but Sean Rogers settled it for Casey’s with a well-taken finish.

Casey’s travel to Northampton Abington Stanley in the Sunday Shield this weekend.
