Casey’s produced their best performance of the season, yet still slipped to a 3-2 Rugby & District Sunday League Division One defeat at Yelvertoft.

A first half performance that pinned the home side into their own half only produced one goal for the visitors through Stuart Clarke.

Casey’s should have been clear, but chances were missed and Yelvertoft levelled on the stroke of half-time.

Casey’s started the second half well and again went ahead thanks to a superb volley from Chris Trill after some excellent play from burly striker Jack Gwillam.

Yelvertoft responded well and hit back to score twice, although both goals were scrappy. Despite late pressure from Casey’s, the score remained the same.

Casey’s are at Staverton Park this Sunday when they play Barley Mow (ko 11am).

In the Rugby & District Sunday League Division Two, Casey’s Reserves enjoyed a 3-1 win over The Webb of Rugby.

It was another excellent team performance with regulars like Martin Russ and Dan Clarke showing their versatility in a number of positions.

However a double strike from modest goal machine Tony Burkett and a single from Rob Horne eclipsed the Webb’s solitary strike.

This to put the Daventry club in contention for a top league position.

Casey’s next game is on Sunday when they travelto Rugby to take on Royal Oak.
