Striker Marquis keen to stay at Cobblers beyond this season

It had been a stop-start season for Marquis prior to his arrival in February with the 23-year-old making just two starts for parent club Millwall.

He’s also spent time out on loan at League Two rivals Leyton Orient this season but again struggled for regular game-time, playing the majority of games in midfield, and it’s at Sixfields where he seems most at home.

Marquis is already a fans’ favourite having scored a couple of crucial goals in the battle to beat the drop during his first loan spell at the club two years ago, and he’s back in the goals again, notching three in four starts since signing last month.

Asked if he would be happy to make the loan move permanent, Marquis replied: “Well first of all the manager would have to want to keep me, but I’ve really enjoyed my time here.

“My time at Millwall has been very static and the next chapter was probably on the cards for me and I would like it to be at Northampton.

“I feel like I fit in quite well here and I’ve played some good football in my career here so you never know.

“It’s down to other people so I’m just going to concentrate on playing and enjoying football again between now and the end of the season and see where it takes me.”

With his height, strength and willingness to run everything down, Marquis caught the eye right from his debut against York City, where he bagged the second goal in a 2-1 win, and he clearly thrives playing in an attacking team which creates so many chances.

“I really enjoy it,” he added. “I couldn’t get here quick enough from when I found out there was a chance of coming back.

“I really enjoyed it last time and I’ve hit the ground running playing in a good team with good players that create me chances.

“I’m just trying to add my game to the team which is working hard and scoring goals.

“I want to help the team as much as I can between now and the end of the season and hopefully it gets Northampton over the line.”
