Skipper Marc Richards lifted the silverware in front of more than 6,500 elated Town supporters at Sixfields, following the team’s 2-0 win over Luton Town.

After the players had left the field on the full-time whistle, so the podium could be set up for the presentation, manager Chris Wilder was the first to emerge from the tunnel to huge applause.

He then made his way to the podium to collect his medal and was followed by his team one by one, as well as all of the club’s coaching staff.

A huge roar rang out when Richards lifted the trophy, and the team then proceeded to partake in a lap of honour as the title party got into full swing.

In a nice touch, the trophy had been taken to the podium by chairman Kelvin Thomas and Graham Carr, the manager of the Cobblers the previous time they won a divisional title, back in 1987.

Photographer Kirsty Edmonds was on hand to capture the celebrations.
