Parkinson will be glad to get back into action

The division one leaders were denied the opportunity to extend their advantage in last weekend’s derby at Woodford United. In turned out to be a no-show from Woodford as the Daventry players and management were greeted by an empty ground.

Town, who saw their lead cut to two points, entertain basement boys Stewarts & Lloyds at Communications Park where only three points will do for Parkinson following last weekend’s blank day.

Parkinson said: “I expect a lot tougher test than when we played them earlier this season in the cup. We go into the game nearly at full strength with just Damon Herbert still not available.

“It’s important we pick up all three points and keep the momentum going as we have a massive game a week later at Bugbrooke St Michaels.”

Looking back on Saturday’s non-event, Parkinson added: “Saturday was without doubt the strangest and possibly the worst day I have had in football. I do not for one minute think that anyone on the committee at Woodford had any idea that the players and management were not going to show.

“What unfolded between 1.30pm and 3pm was just farcical and hopefully I never have to experience it again.

“The Woodford management for whatever reason decided not show and in doing so showed a lack of disrespect to everyone in the UCL and, even more importantly, the club which they were representing.

“Having played, captained and managed Woodford I left the ground feeling dismayed and dejected with what has happened to the club. Hopefully the football club will recover and flourish in the future as they have some excellent young players coming through as a group.”
