Opposition view: Daggers boss Still rues 'fine margins' after Cobblers defeat

Christian Doidge’s goal shortly after the hour-mark had the Daggers ahead, deservedly so after they created numerous chances prior to that, but Northampton dominated thereafter with an unmarked John-Joe O’Toole forcing Nicky Adams’ corner over the line to equalise.

Ricky Holmes’ wonder goal then won it as Dagenham slipped to their sixth consecutive home defeat against the Cobblers.

Going into the match, Dagenham had won their previous two under new boss Still, who was overseeing his first home game yesterday, however he was unable to prevent his side from remaining without a home league win this season.

“The performance was very good,” said Still afterwards. “I’ve been pleased with the performances since I’ve been back.

“The difficult thing is that in the games I’ve been in charge we’ve conceded six goals from set-pieces, none from open play.

“We had a passage of play not long before they scored when they broke down the right, went from side-to-side and tried to go cross-field but we won it and it was brilliant defending and I was so pleased.

“But then you can’t give away goals from restarts. Sometimes it’s inevitable because somebody does something with a little bit of a magic like their second goal which was a great strike.

“But the first goal was very disappointing. He hasn’t had to jump to head it. He’s just run in and bundled it over the line and that’s so disappointing.

“The game is about fine margins. We worked really, really hard to create three or four opportunities and we finally took one.

“But they haven’t had to work hard for their chances. The keeper has made one or two decent saves but I felt when we attacked we had more threat in our game than they did and they’re a top side.

“So I’m really really pleased with that. The game is about fine margins and we have to find a way of turning the fine margins in our favour.”
