Wilder ‘exhausted’ by questioning about Cobblers’ off-field problems

Facing the media following the news that there was a two-week adjournment on the winding up petition brought against the club by HMRC on Monday morning, Wilder declared he was ‘grateful’ the club survived in the High Court.

But when the questioning understandably turned to the possibility and timescale of the proposed takeover by Kelvin Thomas, a weary Wilder made it clear he has had enough.

“I don’t want to cut you off, but I can’t answer any more questions on it, and I am exhausted by it to be honest,” said Wilder.

“I really am, and I think everybody is to be honest, they want this to be put to bed as quickly as possible.

“I can’t give any more answers as I am just repeating stuff I have said in 20 or 30 interviews.

“Ask me a question about football, ask me a question about how well my team’s playing, about what a difficult task it is going to be going to Notts County on Saturday.

“Anything football-wise I will answer, but I am not going to talk about the off-field stuff any more, I am exhausted by it.”

Wilder has had to front up week after week to face the media since the off-field problems escalated a couple of months ago, and it is entirely understandable he has had enough, especially with his team playing so well.

Following the High Court adjournment, Wilder can now concenrate on preparing his players for Saturday’s trip to Notts County in SkyBet League Two.

Asked for his reaction to that reprieve and the fact that Northampton Town is still a football club, Wilder said: “We are all grateful there is (a club), and there should be. That is my reaction.

“It doesn’t change anything, and we have to just get our heads down and, as I have said in countless interviews, concentrate on what we can affect.

“The team is in fantastic form, playing with a lot of confidence, and getting some great results.

“There is a great feel about the place in the changing room among the players.

“There’s a great feeling on training ground, a real togetherness and desire to go again and that’s what we’ll be looking to do on Saturday.”
