Wilder decides against appealing against ‘unlucky’ Taylor’s red card

Premier League referee Neil Swarbrick dismissed Taylor for an apparent elbow into the face of Us midfielder Callum O’Dowda in the 44th minute of Town’s 1-0 win at Sixfields.

Taylor has claimed his innocence saying the offence was accidental, and that is a view shared by Wilder, but with no conclusive evidence to back their belief up, then there will be no appeal.

The club does have a film of the incident from a distance, but the images are not clear enough, and Taylor will now undergo a four-match suspension, due to the fact the red was his second of the season following his dismissal at Barnet.

That means he is out of action until the Johnstone’s Paints Trophy tie at Millwall on October 6, and won’t be available for a Sky Bet League Two game until the Sixfields clash with Hartlepool United on October 10.

“I have been a manager for so many years, and I am not frivolous with my appeals,” said Wilder, who is massively frustrated that he is going to be without one of his key players for such a long period of time.

“Every sending off we look at, but we don’t appeal for, and I have had some ridiculous ones that I thought were nailed on to be rescinded, and they have not been rescinded.

“The one on Saturday, the referee is a Premier League referee, and I think Jason has been unlucky because the lad has run across him.

“Jason has tried to block him off, it is a contact sport, and he has sort of caught him, but the lad has gone down so easily and it is right in the line of the referee.

“These contacts happen in the penalty area and nobody sees it and people get on with it, but it is in front of the referee and he has obviously taken the decision to send Jason off and award the penalty.

“At other clubs, the staff, secretary, all get involved to see if it’s worth making an appeal, but it’s just not worth making an appeal because there is no way that will be overturned.”
