Striker Wilson returns to Northampton Town following Kettering loan

The teenage forward scored seven goals in eight games and was part of a Poppies side that hit real form, winning three out of four matches during the festive period.

Kettering, who are currently playing their home games at Corby Town’s Steel Park ground, were keen to extend the loan of a player who was a big success during his time at the club.

But he has been recalled by manager Aidy Boothroyd, who wants to test the striker at a level in between league two and Kettering’s Southern League standard, but not before adding him to a squad depleted by the end of several loans.

“He is a player who is not going to be a starter for us but he’s proved he can score goals but we need to see if he can score goals at league level,” said Boothroyd, who is likely to use Wilson to fill the void in the matchday squad left by loanee Henoc Mukendi’s return to Liverpool..

“We’re short in numbers at the moment but that might change as we go along. I’d like to see him at a higher level but we need him here.

“I’m looking at the bench at the moment and we’ve got a lot of quality there but we’re just a little short on numbers.

“You have to be careful with these things because you don’t want to end up with loads of players but we are a little short at the moment.”
