Playmaker Adams hails ‘unbelievable’ Cobblers support

After a traumatic few months that has seen the club’s very existence put into doubt, and it is still in doubt, the following at the Ricoh Arena will be a show of strength, support and defiance from the Northampton Town faithful.

There is stil the possibility that the trip to Coventry could be the final away trip for the Cobblers supporters with the club due in the High Court on November 16 to face a winding up petition for an unpaid £166,000 bill to HMRC.

Hopes are obviously still high that it won’t come to that, and that a deal can be done next week with former Oxford United Kelvin Thomas to rescue the club from its predicament.

But as it stands, the future of Northampton Town FC, established 1897, is still very much in doubt, and the trip to Coventry is going to be one full of emotion.

The support for the team from the Cobblers fans has been special for a long time now, but the intensity has increased in recent weeks, and that hasn’t gone unnoticed by the players.

Nicky Adams will be a key man for the Cobblers at the Ricoh Arena on Saturday, and he spoke for the whole squad when he said: “The support is unbelievable.

“Here at Northampton there is a good fanbase, and away from home they travel in numbers.

“They have been unbelievable with us, they have stuck by us, and given us a boost when things haven’t been so good.

“We have just got our heads down and played, and they have come with us. It’s really good.

“Even before the problems all started, the fans were great with us.

“We had a couple of bad results, and you didn’t hear them booing.

“They knew we were trying to do the right thing, it was just down to little individual mistakes that we weren’t getting results.

“But since the off-field problems they have rallied even more.

“At Newport last week we took 400, and that is a long way to go.

“They are spending their heard-earned money to come and watch us play.

“I think they appreciate what we are doing, and if that continues then it’s good for us, and it’s good for them.”
