O’Donovan can’t wait to team up with ‘unselfish’ Platt

Centre-forward Roy O’Donovan says he can’t wait to revive his Cobblers strike partnership with Clive Platt.

Platt rejoins the squad for full training on Thursday for the first time after missing all of the pre-season work and the first two games with a calf injury.

And the timing could not be better for O’Donovan, who scored his opening goal of the campaign against Milton Keynes Dons on Tuesday night, and who is hoping to profit from Platt’s unselfish playing style.

“I love playing with Platty,” said O’Donovan, who also hit the bar in the opening-day defeat at York City.

People probably give him stick because he doesn’t score 20 goals a season but he’ll set up 25 goals a season, he’s that kind of player.

“His vision when the ball is in the air and his awareness of where his strike partner is and the players around him is exceptional.

“I like playing with him and I’m looking forward to him getting fit and staying fit. He’s such an unselfish player.

“In the mean time we’ve played a few of the younger lads and they’ve done well too, they’ve all brought something to the side.”
