The Irish striker will look to add to the two goals he has scored in Northampton colours since his January transfer when he leads the line at Morecambe on Tuesday night (7.45pm kick-off).

The Shrimps are firmly embedded in npower League Two, sitting 13th going into the game, 10 points behind seventh-placed Exeter City and 12 clear of the relegation zone.

Northampton will move into the top three if they win and Burton fail to do so at Aldershot but with a near-full league two programme taking place on the evening, there could be a lot of movement at both ends of the table.

O’Donovan is fully aware of the importance of the game at the Globe Arena against a home side who were routed 4-1 at Barnet at the weekend.

“Tuesday night is a big test for us,” he said.

“Apparently we are invincible at home, and away from home it is probably going to be make or break as to whether we get promoted.

“It is a good ground and it should be a good test. I have only played there once before and that was in a league cup tie under Aidy when I was at Coventry, and we lost, so I will make sure that I am on my guard this time round.

“It is going to be tough on Tuesday now as they are a wounded animal (after their 4-1 loss against Barnet).

“Away from home we have conceded goals that we wouldn’t even dare dream of doing at home.

“We seem to get unlucky away from home, although we got a good win away at Southend.”
