Northampton Town striker Platt ready for Dons abuse

Clive Platt is relishing being subjected to some Boxing Day stick by the Wimbledon supporters, who he is sure will not forget the striker’s association with Milton Keynes Dons.

Platt played for the Dons, who were controversially moved to Milton Keynes in 2003, for two seasons between 2005 and 2007.

He scored 27 goals in 102 games and formed an excellent partnership with Izale McLeod up front - all facts the Wimbedon fans are well aware of, and for which they are likely to single Platt out for special treatment when he visits Kingsmeadow with the Cobblers on Boxing Day.

And the 35-year-old, who scored his fourth goal of the season in the 2-0 win over Aldershot on Saturday, is looking forward to it.

“It’s not one of my favourite places to play being a former Milton Keynes Dons player and they will definitely give me some stick,” said Platt.

“They did when we played them at home. Some not nice things were said so it would be nice to get a goal against them and beat them on Boxing Day.

“I like all that. I like the banter from the fans and sometimes it goes too far, but I enjoy it when the fans give me stick.”

Platt’s rehabilitation from a long-standing back injury is ongoing but the striker is enduring a painful time at the moment, with the heavy pitches doing the injury no favours at all.

The forward is feeling more mobile during matches but continues to take painkillers after them, and said: “A few days ago my back was feeling great but the pitches for me are the worst they can possibly be at the moment.

“You’re constantly working your core and working your lower back just to stand on it never mind twist and turn.

“It was as bad as it has been after the game against Aldershot but hopefully with the work I’ve been doing I’ll be ready and recovered for the game at Wimbledon.

“I’m getting to a place where I’m feeling mobile.

“It wasn’t so much the pain earlier in the season it was the lack of flexibility and I feel like I’ve got that back.”
