The former Coventry City striker arrived at Northampton Town in the January transfer window and scored six goals in 16 starts, including the winner against Cheltenham Town in the first leg of the play-off semi-final.

“There was considerable interest in Roy from a number of clubs from a higher level and we had to work hard to secure Roy’s signature,” said manager Aidy Boothroyd after sealing the deal.

“But Roy feels settled with us and we are delighted we have been able to keep him.

“I thought he was terrific for us towards the end of the season and once he has got a full pre-season under his belt I think we will have a real player there.

“It’s no accident that we improved in the second half of the season when Roy came in. I thought Clive Platt and Roy had a terrific partnership and when we had them both on the pitch we had a very high percentage of wins.

“We know all about Roy, he knows all about us and even though he had a lot of interest from elsewhere I am very pleased he has chosen to stay with us.”
