Northampton Town recall striker Wilson from Kettering loan

Wilson, who scored nine goals over two stints with the Poppies in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division, has been brought back to Sixfields ahead of the end of the temporary deal, which was due to expire at the end of this month.

Town have confirmed the young frontman is expected to join another club on loan within the next “24 hours” and Kettering boss Thomas Baillie believes that club will be Blue Square Bet North strugglers Bishop’s Stortford.

Wilson’s first stint with Kettering proved to be the more fruitful of the two as he hit eight goals during the club’s best run of form in a dismal season during December. He also became the first player since the legendary Billy Kellock to hit a hat-trick for the Poppies on Boxing Day when his treble helped secure a 4-3 win at Hitchin Town.

But it now appears the Cobblers want to test him at the level above and that is something Baillie insists his club can have no qualms about.

“Lewis is a good lad and he is very professional in everything he does,” the Kettering manager said.

“Not that we could, but you never stand in the way of someone who has a chance to perform at a higher level. He now has an opportunity to do that as well as trying to further impress Aidy Boothroyd.

“I am sure he will do well wherever he goes. He has everything a striker needs and he wants it.

“Aidy has said to me that Lewis is going back with a spring in his step. That is good to hear because it means that his loan spell with us has served his purpose.

“Of course, it is not ideal from our point of view and we will now look at bringing another one in and Aidy has said he may be able to help us again. But we certainly wish Lewis all the best.”
