Northampton Town boss Boothroyd wants Sixfields inspiration

A big crowd is expected for the visit of the Minstermen, with the Cobblers just four matches away from claiming a possible promotion from npower League Two.

Town go into the game in fourth place in the league two table, but they have a game in hand on third-placed Burton, so their fate is in their own hands.

Boothroyd’s men are aiming for an 11th straight home league win, and the Town boss said: “The crowd can play a massive part on Saturday.

“We are trying to get this place (Sixfields) full.

“I have been here 18 months now, and we have got it nearly full, but not quite full.

“We want people to come, and I have spoken about all the way along from when I first came here, and that is getting some life into the stadium, getting it full.

“I think we have got life on the pitch now, and I think we are worth watching.

“We have got a lot of things going for us, and we would like people to come and watch their local team and see why we are where we are.”

And he added: “We have done well at home this year and we want to maintain that.

“It is nice for Northampton fans to be able to shout about something for a change, so we want to make sure we give something to smile about.”

Town go into the game under pressure to bounce back from the back-to-back 1-0 defeats they have suffered at the hands of Cheltenham and Bradford.

It will a big, and expectant, crowd at Sixfields this afternoon, but Boothroyd doesn’t believe the tension will affect him or his players.

“To have finished on 48 points last season, 52 the year before that, and 53 the year before that, I just keep reminding people about that,” said the Cobblers boss, when asked if the expectation will have an affect on his team.

“The players have done very well, and if I had said this is where we will be with four games to go then people probably would have laughed and fallen off their chair.

“But we are where we are, and we have to keep going and enjoy it.

“We need to enjoy being where we are, not get tense, and not worry about it.

“I am certainly not, I am looking forward to the last few games.”
