Morecambe boss Bentley: Northampton could have scored seven or eight
As it was, Northampton secured a 4-2 win over the Shrimps thanks to goals from Lawson D’Ath, Sam Hoskins, Joel Byrom and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and Bentley admitted he was in shock at his team’s display, saying they deserved ‘nothing’ from the game.
“I didn’t see that coming,” said Bentley, who had led his team to four straight victories ahead of Saturday.

“We played some good stuff in the first 30 minutes but I think some of the people who have been solid and reliable had a bad day at the office today and it’s not like them.
“Quite a lot of our players dipped and I don’t think many people came out with much credit today.
“I’ve just said to the lads I can accept getting beaten but it’s the manner that we got beaten.

“The fourth goal was a real killer but even when we got back to 4-2 and there’s four minutes plus four or five minutes of stoppages you’re thinking, ‘come on, there’s eight or nine minutes here let’s, have a go’.
“But it was almost as if we knew we weren’t going to get anything and we couldn’t wait for the final whistle.
“On another day they could have scored seven or eight.
“We’ve got what we’ve deserved and that’s nothing.”
