Alan Knill said the Cobblers ‘jumped at the opportunity’ to sign Sheffield United striker Diego De Girolamo but confirmed the club’s transfer recruitment won’t end there.

Town have until March 26 to bring in players on loan and so can still make further additions to their squad for the final stages of the season.

Knill says targets are still being monitored but was delighted to have brought in Italian under-20 international De Girolamo, who had been on loan at York before being recalled by the Blades.

“He’s a player that fits in with our style and we felt we needed something a little bit different to what we’ve already got,” he said.

“He can cover a lot of positions and it’s a signing we jumped at the opportunity of getting done because he’s a talented lad.

“When we saw that he signed for York we thought what a great signing it was because he’s very good technically and is capable of scoring goals.

“It’s a difficult time to be signing players because all clubs seem to be playing for something at the moment and they’re reluctant to let them out.

“It’s important to stress that we’re still looking and that we want lots of options for the final games of the season.”
