It’s King Kelvin as Langmead claims Cobblers supporters’ player of the year award

The club captain finished top of the voting for this year’s award, beating winger Chris Hackett into second and goalkeeper Lee Nicholls into third.

He received the trophy, which is sponsored by Jackson Grundy, at the club’s end-of-season awards dinner at the Park Inn Hotel on Sunday night

Langmead has been a tower of strength for the club, producing a number of imposing performances in the heart of the defence both at home and away.

He continued his excellent form at the end of last season by picking up where he left off this time around and acting as one of the cornerstones of a side that has finished in the npower League Two play-offs.

A knee injury forced him off in the game against Oxford United on March 23, preventing Langmead from completing a rare ever-present season.

While his defensive performances have been hugely impressive, the central defender has also made his mark at the other end, scoring eight goals to become the club’s second highest goalscorer in the 2012-13 campaign.

But perhaps more notable than the goals and the player’s defensive contribution has been the spirit with which he has played, in many ways typical of the current side.

Langmead’s never-say-die attitude on the pitch has marked him out as a true favourite of the supporters, and his talismanic standing among the fans has paved the way for his victory in the ultimate individual accolade a player can win.

Langmead is hoping to be fit for the first-leg of the Cobblers’ play-off semi-final against Cheltenham Town on Thursday.
