Hackett says Cobblers squad are keeping feet on ground

Chris Hackett says the Cobblers squad will not get excited about their league position until the middle of April at the earliest.

The winger, one of the team’s best players over the course of what is shaping up to be a very promising season, scored Town’s first goal in Tuesday night’s win at Aldershot from the penalty spot after a handball in the box.

The win elevated Northampton to third place in npower League Two and the final automatic promotion place.

Although they may slip down the table on an inactive Saturday, the current position has generated a lot of excitement among the club’s success-starved supporters.

But Hackett insists the squad will not be reaching for the champagne bottles any time soon.

“We’ve always said that the most important time in the second will be the second half of April and then May,” he said.

“We’re happy with our squad and we’re happy with where we are in terms of the team spirit among the group and various other things.

“Things are going in the right direction and we are happy but we need to keep plugging away.

“We need to make sure we keep our home form right and maintain away performances like the one at Aldershot and if we do that we won’t be too far away.”
