The striker enjoyed two successfuls loan spells with the Poppies during a trouble campaign last season and hit nine goals, including a hat-trick in the 4-3 victory at Hitchin Town on Boxing Day last year.

He was released by Northampton Town at the end of the season and has now agreed to join Dean Thomas’ new-look squad on non-contract terms ahead of the opening-day fixture at Potters Bar Town.

The Poppies boss said: “Lewis is a very talented footballer and we have seen that for ourselves in the past.

“He is direct and he scores goals and we couldn’t pass up this opportunity to bring him back.

“I think Kettering is close to his heart after his time with us last season. I think he remembers what people here did for him.

“He has scored goals in the Southern League Premier Division and there is no reason why he shouldn’t do the same in the level we are now at.

“He is a proven goalscorer and I am delighted he has agreed to come back here.”
