England under-19s call-up for Northampton Town goalkeeper

Cobblers goalkeeper Dean Snedker has been called up to the England under-19 squad for their international friendly with Denmark, at Doncaster Rovers’ Keepmoat Stadium on Tuesday February 5.

Snedker joins Arsenal’s Chuba Akpom, Eric Dier (Sporting Lisbon), Jordan Pickford (Sunderland), Daniel Potts (West Ham) and Tyler Blackett (Manchester United).

The call-up is Snedker’s second in the space of a week, after he was selected to take part in an England goalkeeper’s training camp at St George’s Park.

The highly-rated Snedker, who is a product of Northampton Town’s Academy, fully deserves his call up, according to manager Aidy Boothroyd.

“Congratulations to Dean, he is making excellent progress and that progress is clearly being noted at the highest level of the game,” he said.

“He is a young goalkeeper with fantastic potential and we are really pleased both for Dean and for our Academy that he has earned this call-up.

“We wish Dean every success while he is away with England. He already has some first team experience, and the experience of playing international football with Premier League players can only be good for him.

“We will keep his feet on the ground, but he a keeper who has a very bright future in the game.”

Snedker signed a three-year professional contract at Sixfields in September and has made three first-team appearances to date.
