Defender Diamond talks up fantastic team spirit at Cobblers

The former Aberdeen man was definitely in the glass half full camp following the 2-2 draw at the Cherry Red Records stadium, seeing it as a crucial point gained rather than two lost.

Town looked out for the count as they trailed 2-0 after an hour, with a rampant home team piling forward in search of a third.

But the Cobblers hit back to level through two Jimmy Gray goals, and Diamond said: “That was a fantastic comeback.

“Who knows how valuable that point will be come the end of the season, but to be 2-0 down away from home and then fight back and draw is a credit to the lads.

“It just shows you what we have in this group, it is a great mix of players in that dressing room.

“I have been about for a number of years, and I can honestly say that this changing room is one of the best, if not the best I’ve been in.

“We have a mixture of experience and youth and everybody is pulling together.

“With six games to go now, we just need to give everything we have got and hopefully that will see us to where we want to be.”

The Scot returned to the Town starting line up for the first time since February 7, and he and the rest of the defence looked comfortable until the opening 15 minutes of the second half when the wheels came off.

Slack defending allowed Sean Rigg and Jake Reeves to fire the home side 2-0 up, and Diamond was at a loss to explain the lapse.

“The disappointment is the fact we went 2-0 down. In the first half we were comfortable without being really good in the final third

“Then suddenly we found ourselves 2-0 and I’m not too sure what happened.

“As a defender you analyse goals, and I don’t know if our line was too deep for the free-kick, and it looks it might have been a free-kick for a foul on Ryan (Cresswell) or Lee (Collins), I couldn’t quite see.

“The second goal, the ball comes off Dukey and then I slap at it, but I think in this game we have to look at the positives rather than the negatives.

“This is a point gained, and you never know where it might take us.”
