Coventry City crisis not a factor in Cameron’s Cobblers switch

The Sky Blues have moved all of their office departments out of the Ricoh Arena, and doubts remain over whether they will play their three final home matches there.

One arm of the club has been put into administration and the club could still face a points deduction which would extinguish their hopes of reaching the npower League One play-offs.

But Cameron, who signed on at Sixfields until the end of the season, insists it has been business as usual for the players and that he was not looking for an escape route.

“At the training ground it’s been pretty much the same,” said the central defender, who goes into the Town squad for the Friday night game against Torquay United (7.45pm kick-off).

“The position the club is in hasn’t affected the squad that much.

“People might say it’s affected a few results, but everyone is focused and that hasn’t changed.

“We’ve all been concentrating on playing football, not the finances of the club, and that’s what we’ve been doing.

“It’s not really a relief to get away because it was never an issue when I was there.

“The players were fighting for automatic promotion and that will still be the objective.”

Although Cameron is primarily using his stay at Northampton to help the team cross the automatic promotion line, he will also hope to secure a contract for next season.

His current deal at the Ricoh expires in June and while Cameron is receptive to a new deal at his parent club, manager Stephen Pressley says a renewal is unlikely.

“He will go out on loan until May 31,” Pressley told the Coventry Telegraph.

“I don’t know longer term what they (Northampton) are thinking at their end, but Nathan is up at the end of the season so it will give him the opportunity to impress potential suitors.

“I would say his future is likely to lie away from Coventry.

“I am a manager who wants to develop his young players but I feel for Nathan that it would be best, and he also thinks that he should go out and develops elsewhere.”

Most of the upper tier of the west stand has sold out for the Torquay game, and supporters are advised to buy tickets early to avoid disappointment.
