Collins ready to ‘jump on board’ at Northampton Town next season

The former Port Vale defender was yesterday one of seven players to be offered new terms to stay at the Cobblers.

And it seems likely the 24-year-old will follow skipper Kelvin Langmead in signing on the dotted line.

Asked if he wanted to stay with the Cobblers for next season, Collins said: “Yes, definitely.

“Aidy (Boothroyd) is a top man, although he might fine me now for calling him Aidy!

“But he is a top man, and he has huge ambitions that I believe in, and I am willing to jump on board.”

Collins is also happy at the club he joined on a short-term deal in January.

“It is a very professionally run club, from the gaffer to the staff, to the kit man to the players and to the fans,” said Collins.

“It is also a really family orientated club, which I really like, and I have enjoyed my time here.

And Collins, if he agrees to sign the contract that has been offered to him, is confident the Cobblers can go one better next season and win promotion.

Collins was part of the team dismantled 3-0 by Bradford City in last Saturday’s npower League Two play-off final, and he admitted it was a bitter pill to swallow.

“Our aim next season has to be automatic promotion, at least,” said Collins. “I can’t handle another one of these days.

“It is heartbreaking to lose at Wembley, it is brutal.”
