Blyth, who turns 21 next week, began his career with prolific spells for a number of non-league clubs.

In May 2012 he was signed by Leicester City from Leamington for an undisclosed fee. After scoring six goals in 11 appearances for the club’s Under 21 Development Squad, he had loan spells at Burton Albion and Notts County in 2012/13.

Last season he was the top scorer for Leicester City’s Development Squad and signed a new contract with the Foxes in May 2013.

“We watch a lot of football at all levels and Jacob is a player I have tracked for a few years,” said Cobblers boss Aidy Boothroyd.

“I think he will come in and do us a good turn. He is a good finisher, as his record at non-league level and in Leicester’s Development Squad has proved. He is good in the air, he can hold the ball up and he is keen to do well.

“All round he is a good footballer and I am pleased we have been able to bring him in.”

Blyth has been allocated squad number 25 and is added to the squad for the visit of Newport County on Saturday.
