“We’ve got this game just to give some of our lads the feel of an 11-a-side game again,” said manager Aidy Boothroyd.

The squad are nearing the end of their spell in Croatia, and Boothroyd revealed the intensity of the work so far has led to several early nights for the players.

“Things are going perfectly to plan out here,” said Boothroyd.

“The lads are working hard and although this sounds like a contradiction, we are seeing them both get fitter and getting more tired as the week goes on and as the work they have done builds up.

“Their strength, speed and fitness is improving and we know they are working very hard because most of them are fast asleep by 9pm each evening.

“But that’s the point of this trip, to work hard and get this work in the bank.

“So far, so good.”
