Cobblers chairman Cardoza in plea for Sixfields support

Despite suffering successive 1-0 defeats at rivals Cheltenham and Bradford City in the past week, the Cobblers’ promotion fate is still in their own hands with four games of the season remaining.

Town are third in league two and lead the Robins on goal difference, while they are a point clear of Burton Albion, four ahead of Rotherham United, five clear of Exeter City and seven ahead of the Bantams.

Some supporters are beginning to get a little bit twitchy about the team’s promotion hopes following the losses at Whaddon Road and Valley Parade, but Cardoza wants nothing but positivity surrounding the team.

And he is desperate to see packed houses at Sixfields for the remaining two home games of the season, the first of which is against York City on Saturday (ko 3pm) before Barnet come knocking on the final day of the season (April 27).

“The turnaround in the club has been quite phenomenal,” said Cardoza.

“Just 13 months ago we were bottom of the Football League and worrying about non-League football.

“Now we are four games away from possibly winning promotion.

“Would we have taken this 12 months ago? Would we have taken this at the start of the season? Would we have taken this at Christmas? Would we have taken this a week and a half ago?

“The answer is emphatically yes, yes, yes and yes.”

And he added: “Aidy and the players deserve all the praise in the world and we know it will be a really exciting end to the season.

“I really hope that the public come and get behind Aidy and the players. It has not been easy this season.

“We have had our ups and downs, we have suffered the loss of Alex Nicholls and we have lost our skipper (Kelvin Langmead) to injury but we have battled on and the togetherness of the squad has shone through.

“Now I believe it is time for Cobblers fans everywhere to get right behind the lads, create a huge, passionate and noisy atmosphere and let’s have a full Sixfields helping us in these crucial final two home games.

“We need the town, the county, the area and Cobblers fans all around the world right behind us.”

The club have also announced that ticket sales for both the York and Barnet games are already at an advanced level and are urging supporters to buy their tickets as soon as possible.

Also, a new online Box Office is undergoing final testing ahead of a proposed launch this week. This will be selling tickets for both matches.
