Wilder set aside the very serious concerns over the future of the club and non-payment of player and staff wages to inspire his team to a perfect month with four wins out of four in the league.

They saw off Mansfield Town and Yeovil Town at Sixfields and also won at Notts County and Crawley Town, while league one Coventry City were also beaten in the FA Cup first round.

The togetherness and league form Wilder oversaw has lifted the Cobblers into the automatic promotion places, and level on points with leaders Oxford United.

Former Ipswich Town and Scotland boss George Burley chairs the Sky Bet Manager of the Month judging panel, and he said: “Chris has done a terrific job with Northampton Town, while also having to deal with a lot of difficult problems off the field.

“He has achieved a 100 per cent record this month with two really solid home wins and two outstanding away performances.”

Sky Sports’ Football League pundit and former Wolves striker Don Goodman was also one of the judges, and said: “What a month it’s been for Northampton Town and Chris Wilder.

“They started November with the threat of a winding up order hanging over them, and have ended it in the automatic promotion places with a new owner at the helm.

“He deserves a huge amount of credit for the fact that he was able to keep his players focused and motivated - testament to his management capabilities.”

The rest of the judging panel comprised of Football League Chief Operating Officer Andy Williamson, League Managers’ Association Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet Football trading manager Paul Lowery.
