The Town boss has never managed a winning side at the home of Bristol Rovers, but he is keeping his fingers crossed that run comes to an end this afternoon (ko 3pm).

“Bristol Rovers got their season up and running last weekend (with a win over York City), and it is going to be a difficult game,” said Boothroyd.

“I have yet to go there and win with a team, so hopefully that will get put right this weekend.

“They have some good players, and I know their manager John Ward very well having worked with him at Colchester. He is a wily old fox.

“We are catching each other at a time when we are getting players back, and they are getting players back, and it will be a tough game.

“But it is a game that both teams will think they can get something out of it.”

The Cobblers are due to welcome back central defender Matt Heath after injury for the showdown against the Gas, while new signing Matt Harriott will be added to the matchday squad.

Winger Chris Hackett is also available again after serving the one-match ban he received for his sending-off at Southend United, while striker Clive Platt is in contention for a start after recovering from the calf injury that put paid to his pre-season.
