Carlisle aims to achieve ‘good things’ with Northampton Town

Clarke Carlisle believes ‘good things’ can be achieved by the Cobblers after he today committed his future to the club by signing an 18-month contract at Sixfields.

The central defender finally became a Northampton Town player following two successful loan spells with the club from Burnely and then York City, and he says he is looking forward to a progressive career in the claret and white.

Carlisle may be 33 and a veteran of more than 500 senior appearances for clubs such as Queens Park Rangers, Watford, Leeds United, Burnley and Preston North End, but he still has an appetite for playing the game.

“There is life in the old dog yet,” said Carlisle, speaking on Sky Sports News. “And I am delighted to have signed here at Northampton.

“I know Aidy (Boothroyd) well, we have crossed paths on a number of occasions before.

“And having spent the back end of last season at Northampton, I believe we are capable of good things.

“Hopefully I can contribute to that.”

Carlisle, who missed the New Year’s Day win over Dagenham & Redbridge as he couldn’t be signed in time, is set to return to the Cobblers starting line-up for tomorrow’s npower League Two clash with Fleetwood at Sixfields (ko 3pm).
