Bury v Northampton Town team news

Ricky Holmes remains a doubt for the Cobblers trip to Bury this weekend but the winger has trained after a scan revealed his knee injury is not as serious as was initially feared.

The winger jarred his left knee in the win over Tranmere on Saturday and was sent for an MRI scan which kept him out of Tuesday’s game against Carlisle United, but was given the all clear.

The club will adopt a cautious approach with Holmes now, which may mean him sitting out the trip to Gigg Lane.

“It’s only a maybe for Saturday,” confirmed assistant manager Alan Knill. “He’s doing some work but he’s still being monitored and we need to tread carefully because he is a big player for us.

“The scan was very positive but it’s still a bit of a delicate one because obviously there is something wrong there.”

Evan Horwood is unlikely to face Bury, meaning Tom Newey should keep his place at left-back.

Horwood picked up a minor groin injury in the loss at Plymouth and it continues to cause him some discomfort despite the player being rested for the midweek game against Carlisle United.

Marc Richards (Achilles), Kaid Mohamed (foot), Ben Tozer (knee) and Ian Morris (knee) all remain out, while for Bury former Cobblers defender Nathan Cameron is suspended and journeyman striker Daniel Nardiello could be missing with a hamstring strain.
