Burton boss Rowett believes Cobblers are ‘best set-piece team’ in league two

The Brewers travel to Sixfields tomorrow aiming to put a dent in the Cobblers’ proud home record.

But Rowett knows that his team are facing a tough task, admitting that Aidy Boothroyd’s men are a handful on home soil.

Burton’s league record is very similar to the Cobblers’, as they are very strong at home but poor on their travels, and Rowett said: “It is a bit strange how we have a similar record to Northampton.

“But that won’t be the issue tomorrow because they’ve got a very, very good home record and they do things in a certain way that we will have to combat.

“They’re probably the best set-piece team in the division, and know how to hurt you if you don’t stand up to them.

“Aidy Boothroyd kept them up last season and now he has the going in the right direction, so it’s going to be a test of our resilience and strength of character.”

Cobblers officials are confident the game at Sixfields will get the go-ahead despite the snow that is falling in Northampton today, and if they do Rowett is hoping to have striker Calvin Zola fit for action.

The former Crewe man, who was a Cobblers transfer target two years ago, is nursing a groin problem.

And Rowett said: “Calvin is doing very little training at the moment, but we’re hoping the break between games will mean he’s fit enough to play at Northampton.”

Midfielders Lee Bell (foot) and Jacques Maghoma (knee) are also doubts for Burton, but are hoping to shake off their injuries picked up in last weekend’s 2-1 win over Torquay United.

The two sides drew 3-3 when they met at Burton earlier in the season, with the Cobblers fighting back from 2-0 and 3-2 down to claim a point.
