Boss Wilder says it’s ‘head down’ and focus on the Cobblers as he is linked with Luton job

Wilder says him being linked with the Hatters, as he has been in recent weeks with the top jobs at Cambridge United and Chesterfield, is simply a result of the fact the Cobblers are playing well.

Luton are on the lookout for a new boss following the sacking of John Still last week, off the back of their 4-3 home defeat to the Cobblers, and Wilder insists that him being linked with a switch to Kenilworth Road is just the ‘same old’, and that he is going to get his head down and get on with managing Northampton Town.

Asked for his reaction to being made favourite to be the next manager at Luton, Wilder said: “It’s the same old, and it’s obviously because we are doing well.

“As I have said regarding our players too, I would rather be this way because we are doing well, than not.

“It is a case of head down and carrying on.”

Wilder’s focus this week is on preparing his Cobblers team for their Boxing Day trip to York City.

Town go into the clash at Bootham Crescent having lost 2-1 to promotion rivals Portsmouth at Sixfields on Saturday, with the good news from that game being there are no fresh injury worries for the Cobblers.

Midfielder Paul Corry remains the only player unavailable for selection as Town head into the busy festive period, with the Boxing Day trip to York followed by home dates against Accrington (Dec 28) and Barnet (Jan 2).
