Boothroyd sure Northampton will bounce back again

Aidy Boothroyd is confident the Cobblers can once again exhibit their powers of recovery this week when the team bid to bounce back from the Exeter loss against Accrington at Sixfields.

Town’s form on their own ground has been excellent this season, with 10 of the past 11 fixtures there ending in wins for Boothroyd’s men.

It is a record that has been the basis of their promotion charge - the team are currently fifth in npower League Two, although Rotherham and Cheltenham will both overtake them if they get a draw or better in their fixtures on Tuesday night.

Town play host to Accrington on the back of a hefty 3-0 defeat at Exeter but they have been fairly good at responding to such results this term.

On five occasions, the team has recorded a win in the fixture immediately after a bad away loss – in the wake of losses at Plymouth Argyle, Fleetwood, Bristol Rovers, Chesterfield and Rotherham.

Having experienced a ninth road reverse of the campaign in the 3-0 defeat at Exeter City on Saturday, Boothroyd is confident the team can make it six against Stanley this weekend.

“We’ve had a couple of hidings this season and we’ve managed to bounce back from them in our next game,” he said.

“If you look at the past three games, we’ve taken six points from nine games and I guess we would have taken that, but Exeter was very disappointing because I want us to win every game.

“We’ve got a good group, they will take it on the chin and we’ll get going this week to prepare for the game against Accrington.”
