Boothroyd lays down challenge as Cobblers prepare for tough away tests

Aidy Boothroyd will challenge his Cobblers squad to move away from the relegation zone of the npower League Two away form table.

No team in the division has scored more goals on their own ground than Northampton, and their record of 10 wins from 15 games is the best of all 24 sides.

Only one away team has been victorious at Sixfields since October 23 but the story is a dramatically different one for the team on their travels.

Just 13 points have been picked up from 13 games, a tally that could prove difficult to add to with the fixture list taking Town to Gillingham and Rotherham United in their next two games.

But, having picked up a very welcome three points at Aldershot in midweek, Boothroyd is confident the team can improve on the road, and has laid down the challenge to his players.

“We’ve got four out of our next five games away from home and we know we’ve got to improve that,” he said.

“Our home form is the best in the division, we’re top of the league on our home form but away we’re in the relegation zone and that needs to get better.

“If we can get our away form into the mid-table area in the form table or even in the play-off positions from now until the end of the season and maintain our home form then it will have been a successful season.”
