Boothroyd happy with Cobblers squad as Heath signs new deal

Heath has penned a deal to remain at Sixfields until the January transfer window but Boothroyd is happy with the rest of his squad.

The final day of business for permanent deals looks like being a quiet one at Sixfields, with the exception of the Heath deal and the potential exit of David Artell

Clubs can complete loans deal when that window opens on September 9, and players can be signed on permanent contracts if they are not registered with another club by the close of business tonight.

That leaves a couple of avenues open to Boothroyd after today, and he said: “I’m quite happy with the targets that we’ve got.

“You’ve got to be creative when you’re in our position, you have to get the players for the best deal possible.

“It’s clear that we do need another centre-half; Matt has been excellent and I think he is just what we need right now.

“He is a terrific character and he showed on Saturday at Bristol Rovers that he is willing to put his body on the line for the team.

“I’m quite happy everywhere else.

“When everybody is fit we’ve got a really good squad and another positive is that we have lots of good young players coming through.

“The last thing I want to do is stifle their development by bringing players in who are going to be sat around doing nothing.”

One player who may be leaving Sixfields today is defender Artell, who has been close to making his exit on a couple of occasions in the past fortnight but the deals broke down.
